单词 carbonic acid
释义
carbonic acid

Chemistry
  • A dibasic acid, H2CO3, formed in solution when carbon dioxide is dissolved in water:

    CO2(aq)+H2O(l)H2CO3(aq)

    The acid is in equilibrium with dissolved carbon dioxide, and also dissociates as follows:

    H2CO3H++HCO3-Ka=4.5×10-7moldm-3HCO3-CO32-+H+Ka=4.8×10-11moldm-3

    The pure acid cannot be isolated, although it can be produced in ether solution at –30°C. Carbonic acid gives rise to two series of salts: the carbonates and the hydrogencarbonates.

Biology
  • A weak acid, H2CO3, formed in solution when carbon dioxide is dissolved in water:

    CO2+H2OH2CO3

    The acid is in equilibrium with dissolved carbon dioxide, and also dissociates into hydrogencarbonate and hydrogen ions. These reactions, catalysed by carbonic anhydrase, take place in the red blood cells when carbon dioxide diffuses into them from the surrounding tissue cells. It is a component in a key natural buffer system that maintains the pH of body fluids at a certain level. See also hydrogencarbonate.
