A Middle East peace agreement. It was named after the official country house of the US President in Maryland, where President Carter met President Sadat of Egypt and Prime Minister Begin of Israel to negotiate a settlement of the disputes between the two countries. Peace was made between Egypt and Israel after some 30 years of conflict, and provisions were agreed for an Israeli withdrawal from Egyptian territory. This agreement did not bring about peace with the other Arab countries; rather, it led increasingly to Egypt being isolated from its Arab neighbours.
