A geophysicist of the University of Cambridge, England, Bullard worked on many of the geophysical techniques used to gather data in support of plate tectonic theory, including studies of gravity, heat flow, and palaeomagnetism. He was an early supporter of plate tectonic theory, publishing in 1964 a computer-generated map showing the matching of continental shelves on either side of the Atlantic.
