A crystallization process used to separate components of a liquid mixture by cooling until a particular component is crystallized as a solid from the liquid phase within a crystallizer. It involves either a gradual deposition of a crystalline layer on (p. 235) a chilled surface of a flowing or static melt, or the fast generation of discrete crystals dispersed in the crystallizer.
