A member of the House of Representatives, he represented the Nationalists and the United Australia Party. He became Prime Minister and Minister for External Affairs in the so-called Bruce–Page government. His government’s policies were summed up in the slogan “Men, Money, and Markets”. He served in the British War Cabinet and Pacific War Council (1942–45). He chaired the World Food Council (1947–51) and the British Finance Corporation for Industry (1947–57).
