A method used to determine the demand for oxygen in wastewater and is a measure of the conversion of all the carbon being converted to carbon dioxide and nitrogen to nitrates ions. It is less widely used than the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) tests, which are used to measure the effects of pollution in water.
