A fluid flow measuring device that consists of a tapered nozzle arrangement within a pipeline. The device is designed to increase the velocity of the fluid with a corresponding decrease in pressure. A measurement of the difference between the upstream and nozzle pressure gives an indication of flow rate. The coefficient of discharge for high flows is around 0.8 and is therefore better than an orifice plate meter although it is comparatively more expensive to fabricate.
