A range of mountains on Venus at around +65° lat., 3°E long. Maxwell Montes are nearly 800 km wide and lie near the centre of Ishtar Terra. They contain the highest peak on Venus, 11 km above the mean surface level. On the eastern slopes of Maxwell Montes lies the volcanic caldera Cleopatra, 105 km in diameter. Maxwell Montes showed up on the first Earth-based radar maps of Venus, and were named after J. C. Maxwell.
