The daughter of Cudworth and close friend of Locke, who lived with her and her husband in the last period of his life, from 1691 to 1704, at their house Oates in Essex. She was an early protagonist of women’s education, and corresponded with Leibniz. She wrote A Discourse Concerning the Love of God (1696) in reply to the writer John Norris, and Occasional Thoughts in Reference to a Christian Life (1694), the latter an appeal to women to study intelligently the grounds of their religious belief.
