A French royal residence in Paris built in the 16th century. In June 1792 during the French Revolution crowds forced their way into the palace, and on 10 August it was attacked, the Swiss Guard was massacred, and the royal family took refuge with the Assembly. The palace was burned down in the 19th century, but the formal gardens laid out in the 17th century remain.
