The idea that accounts should provide a correct impression of the state of a company. It is the role of auditors to check and certify that accounts offer a true and fair view. Accounts should not contain false statements; this is the true part. Neither, however, should they mislead by omission; this is the fair part. It requires more information to be sure that accounts are fair than that they are true.
