A mineral form of silicon(IV) oxide, SiO2.
A high-temperature variety of silica (SiO2) which is stable between 870 and 1470 °C at normal pressures. It occurs as tabular plates in cavities of volcanic rocks and also in stony meteorites. See also quartz.
