The time required for a charge carrier to travel directly from one designated point or region in an electronic device to another, under specified operating conditions. The transit time depends on the operating conditions, the device geometry, and in semiconductor devices upon the velocity of the carriers within the semiconductor; in the absence of carrier storage the transit time effectively limits the frequency at which a given device may be operated.
