1. (macro) The definition of a design that occurs with a degree of regularity in a digital design, often in computer-aided design (CAD) tools. The macrocells can be simple gates, flip-flops, adders, CPUs, etc., and once defined can be called and placed in the required positions in a design.
2. A large cell in a cellular communication system. Typically, a macrocell is over 10 km in diameter, and the base station is on top of a tall mast or building.
