specializing in Bayesian inference. Berger studied at Cornell U, obtaining his PhD in 1974 and joining the faculty at Purdue U. He was Editor of the Annals of Statistics from 1994 to 2000 and President of the IMS in 1995. In 1997 he moved to Duke U. He was the COPSS President’s Award winner in 1985 and its Fisher Lecturer in 2001. He was the IMS Wald Lecturer in 2007. He was elected to the NAS in 2003.
