Along with Valentin Lebedev, he set a record of 211 days in space in the space station Soyuz T-5, arriving in May 1982 and returning in December. They conducted numerous experiments, including ones in biology, agriculture, and geology, and launched an amateur-radio satellite designed by Russian students. Berezovoi also took a space walk of nearly three hours. He was selected as a cosmonaut in 1970 and left the space programme in 1992.
