A long-tailed parrot (family Psittacidae) with a bill larger than that of Old World parrots, a pale facial patch, and often with brightly coloured plumage. Macaws feed on plant material, some species foraging over a large area. Most live in forests, especially rainforests, but some occur on savannah grassland. There are six genera with 19 species, found in North and South America and Mexico.
