单词 Lunar Receiving Laboratory
释义
Lunar Receiving Laboratory

Space Exploration
  • An isolation facility created by NASA in Houston, Texas, for the Apollo 11 astronauts, the first crew to return from the Moon. Immediately upon being picked up on 25 July 1969 by the USS Hornet rescue vessel, Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin were given biological isolation garments and quarantined in a modified house trailer on the ship for three days. They were then taken to Houston to be quarantined behind a locked door in the LRL until 10 August 1969. The facility included an exercise room, good food, and a bar. During this time they debriefed NASA personnel, who observed them and the white mice that were put in the room to indicate any early infection from lunar microbes. The LRL also had a large laboratory for testing the Moon rocks brought back by the mission for toxicity and potential biohazards.
