A private US company that promotes future space travel through the development of technologies and finances. LunaCorp has built and tested a prototype lunar rover, Nomad, developed by the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In June 2000 the company joined with US company Radio Shack to announce a US$130=million programme, Lunar Icebreaker, to send Nomad to the Moon to search for ice at the poles. The rover is solar-powered and also runs on batteries. LunaCorp believes revenue could come from the public paying to operate the rover on the Moon by remote control. It also has plans for a SuperSat spacecraft with broadband communications to be assembled on the International Space Station and sent into orbit around the Moon.

Former astronaut Buzz Aldrin is an advisor to the company, which is located in Fairfax, Virginia.
