A series of alluvial fans, typically laid down by ephemeral streams, which has coalesced along the foot of the mountains to form a gently sloping plain of unconsolidated sediments. The weathering of the mountain front may also supply debris. Alluvium on the lower part of a pediment may also make a bajada. See Bull’s classic paper (1977), PPG 1; Leeder and Mack (2001) J. Geol. Soc. 158 for a clear review, plus a great title; and Wainwright et al. (2002) J. Arid Envs. 51.
