The study of the structural features of a planet that result from crustal movement or deformation, or the processes associated with such movement. Faults, graben, and wrinkle ridges are all tectonic features, and give clues to past movements of a planetary crust. On Earth, the movement of crustal plates in response to convective movements below them, called plate tectonics, has given rise to continental drift.
