A 50-m radio telescope for millimetre-wave observations sited at an altitude of 4600 m on Sierra Negra in the state of Puebla, Mexico; known in Spanish as Gran Telescopio Milimétrico Alfonso Serrano. It is jointly owned by the Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Óptica, y Electrónica (INAOE) of Mexico and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. The LMT observes at wavelengths of 0.85–4 mm. It began operation in 2011, initially using only the inner 32 m of the dish. It is named after the Mexican astronomer Alfonso Serrano Pérez-Grovas (1950–2011).
