单词 lacus
释义
lacus

Astronomy
  • A small, dark plain on a planetary surface; pl. lacūs. The name is not a geological term but is used in the nomenclature of individual features, for example Lacus Somniorum on the Moon and Ontario Lacus on Titan. The word means ‘lake’ and was first applied to lunar features in the seventeenth century, when it was thought the dark areas on the Moon might be bodies of water.

Geology and Earth Sciences
  • From the Latin lacus, meaning ‘lake’, a term that has been used to name small, isolated patches of mare basalt on the lunar surface (e.g. Lacus Somniorum, the ‘Lake of Dreams’, north of Mare Serenitatis). On Titan the term describes a small, dark plain with clearly defined boundaries.
