and a veteran of six space flights, which included two long residencies as a flight engineer on the Russian space station Mir. His first mission on the station lasted from November 1988 to April 1989 and the second from May 1991 to March 1992. He was also a member of the first resident crew aboard the International Space Station, from October 2000 to March 2001. In April 2005, Krikalev returned to the ISS aboard a Soyuz spacecraft to command Expedition 11; with that sixth mission, he has logged more than 803 days in space, including eight EVAs. He is currently third in the record for the most time spent in space.
