A relation between the real part and the imaginary part (see complex number) of a response function. This relation is a consequence of causality and was first derived in 1926 by Hendrik Anton Kramers (1894–1952) and Ralph Kronig (1904–95), working independently. Generalizations of the Kramers–Kronig relation are very useful in quantum field theory.
