(Latinized name Azophi), born in modern Iran. His Book of the Fixed Stars (c.964) contained a star catalogue and constellation illustrations based on Ptolemy’s Almagest, revised in the spirit of Arab astronomy and with Arab star names that are still in use, albeit in corrupted form. It incorporated al-Ṣūfī’s own observations, and contains the earliest known reference to the Andromeda Galaxy.
