  • A unit of work or energy used in the c.g.s. system and defined as the work done by a force of 1 dyne when it acts through a distance of 1 centimetre. 1 erg=10−7 joule.


Chemical Engineering
  • A unit of work in the c.g.s. system in which one erg is the force when one dyne of force is exerted upon a body through a distance of 1 cm. This is a very small unit and one joule is preferred in which one erg is equal to 10-7 joules.


Geology and Earth Sciences
  • 1. Sand sea in a hot desert. It is a feature of the Sahara, where sand typically is accumulated in wide shallow basins as alluvial and lacustrine deposits derived from adjacent rocky desert during the Cenozoic. It is often very large: the Grand Erg Oriental covers 196  000 km2 in Algeria and Tunisia.

Geography
