A battle fought in a narrow densely wooded pass near Pitlochry in Scotland when John Graham of Claverhouse, Viscount Dundee, led the first Jacobite attempt to restore James II to the English and Scottish thrones. He overwhelmed the inexperienced forces of General Mackay, who lost 2000 dead and 500 taken prisoner, but Dundee was killed at the moment of victory. The Highlanders were subsequently unable to follow up their success.
