  • A small US Department of Energy satellite carrying six telescopes to map the soft X-ray and extreme ultraviolet background over the whole sky. ALEXIS (Array of Low-Energy X-ray Imaging Sensors) was launched in 1993 April. The mission ended in 2005 April.

  • A small US satellite, known in full as Array of Low-Energy X-ray Imaging Sensors, which carried six wide-angle telescopes to survey the sky at ultrasoft X-ray and extreme ultraviolet wavelengths. It also contained a broadband VHF ionospheric survey experiment called Blackbeard. ALEXIS was launched by a Pegasus booster on 25 April 1993 from the wing of a B-52. It operated successfully for 12 years and exceeded all expectations. The satellite was decommissioned on 29 April 2005.
