A bird (family Troglodytidae) with drab plumage and a fairly long bill. Most are small or tiny, and many species are secretive, but all wrens have a loud and complex song. They feed mainly on insects. There are about 20 genera with 80 species, all occurring in the New World except for the Eurasian wren (Troglodytes troglodyrtes), found in Eurasia and North Africa.
