A US Earth-observing programme that since 2010 has used data from sixty-six Iridium Communications commercial satellites in polar orbits to provide magnetic field measurements in near-real time to assist in forecasting weather in space and to enable 24-hour tracking of Earth’s response to blasts of plasma ejected at supersonic speed by the Sun.
