The Cartesian plane is called the complex plane or Argand diagram when each point (x, y) represents the complex number x + yi.
A plane described by two orthogonal axes, one axis representing a scale of real numbers and the other axis representing a scale of imaginary numbers. A complex number a + jb (where j = √−1) can be geometrically interpreted as a point on the complex plane. A diagram representing the complex plane is often called an Argand diagram (see diagram).
