The IP₂ is used to predict mixer performance in terms of the half-IF response, which is generated by mixing of internally generated local oscillator and RF second harmonics:
$half - IF rejection = ½ (I P_{2} - S - C R) (dB)$
where S is the sensitivity of the radio receiver, and CR is the cochannel rejection or capture ratio. Only the mixer IP₂ needs to be considered, as it is this stage that generates the half-IF response. See also intermodulation.
