Stefan–Boltzmann constant

Astronomy
  • A constant (appearing in the Stefan–Boltzmann law) that relates the luminosity of a black body to its thermodynamic temperature in kelvin. It has the value 5.670 367 × 10−8 W/m2/K4. Also called the Stefan constant.

Chemical Engineering
  • A proportionality constant representing the thermal radiation heat loss by emission from a black body. In SI units, it has a value of 5.669 7 × 10−8 W m2 K−4. It is named after Austrian physicists Josef Stefan (1853–93) and Ludwig Eduard Boltzmann (1844–1906).
