The Federation is the world’s leading space advocacy body, with over 300 members including all key space agencies, companies, societies, associations, and institutes across 66 countries. Established in 1951, the non-governmental organization advances and disseminates knowledge about space and the development and application of space assets to benefit humanity. Its newsletter goes out to 27 000 subscribers. The IAF organizes international symposia, workshops, and events. These include an annual Space Workshop for Developing Nations, organized with the United Nations (UN); space seminars at UN meetings; and an International Astronautical Congress, hosted each year by a different nation. The Congress is organized with the International Academy of Astronautics and the International Institute of Space Law, which the IAF founded in 1960. Its permanent secretariat is in Paris, France.
