The provision of negative feedback in a circuit, such as an amplifier, that contains inductance and capacitance and introduces substantial gain between the input and the output, in order to provide overdamping (see damped) in the circuit and thus prevent any oscillations occurring. Shunt stabilization is a type of stabilization in which the amplifier and the feedback circuit are connected in parallel. Series stabilization is provided by a feedback circuit connected in series with the amplifier. See also compensator.
