A beach form somewhere between the high-energy dissipative beach and the low-energy reflective beach, and containing elements of both these two basic types of beach. For example, the upper part of an intermediate beach can be steep, and show characteristics of a reflective beach. Intermediate beaches tend to form near shore bars, which will dissipate some of the wave energy.
