The weak magnetic field of less than 10−12 tesla believed to be present in the space between galaxies. The intergalactic field may have arisen spontaneously in the very early Universe, or from the effect of atomic particles and magnetic fields from cosmic radio sources. It could be ten times stronger in clusters of galaxies.
