An antelope (family Bovidae), about 80 cm tall at the shoulder, with a light brown coat, a white face with a black stripe from each eye to the mouth, a white rump, and in both sexes a pair of black horns that curve to the rear. Springboks engage in pronking, in which the animal leaps repeatedly up to 2 m high with stiff legs and bent back. Springboks are browsers and can survive long periods without drinking, deriving sufficient water from succulents in their diet. They occur in arid regions of southern Africa.
