A telescope designed for viewing a guide star when keeping a larger instrument correctly pointed as the Earth turns; also known as a guidescope. The actual guiding is done either by watching a guide star and keeping it precisely centred on cross-wires in the eyepiece, or using an autoguider. An alternative to a guide telescope is an off-axis guider.
