Indigenous peoples are peoples defined in international or national legislation as having a set of specific rights based on their historical ties to a particular territory, and their cultural or historical distinctiveness from other populations that are often politically dominant; K. S. Coates (2004). Indigenous knowledge describes those distinctive ideas, skills, and information held by indigenous peoples, usually contrasted with Western scientific knowledge. Briggs (2013) Prog.
