Operational Iranian spaceport located near Semnen. Construction reportedly began in 2003, and it was inaugurated in early 2008 with the test launch of the Kavoshgar 1 rocket. Its development included a horizontal rocket assembly and checkout building, engine test stand, circular launch pad, and collapsible umbilical tower. In February 2009 a 27-kg Omid satellite was successfully launched from the Semnen site using a two-stage Safir rocket.
Construction of a second spaceport about 3 km from the original site was completed and includes a 45-m-tall gantry tower (capable of launching much larger rockets), umbilical tower, two flame trenches, and a new engine test stand. On 27 July 2017 Iran successfully launched a Simorgh rocket, which signalled the official opening of the new Imam Khomeini Space Centre.
