A satellite of Saturn, 1 500 933 km from the planet’s centre, orbital period 21.28 days; also known as Saturn VII. It is irregular in shape, measuring 360 × 266 × 205 km. Hyperion was discovered in 1848 by W. C. Bond and G. P. Bond, and independently two days later by W. Lassell. Hyperion’s surface is heavily covered with impact craters which show signs of collapse and infilling.
