The eleventh-closest satellite of Jupiter, distance 11 460 000 km, orbital period 250.6 days; also known as Jupiter VI. Himalia is 170 km in diameter, and was discovered in 1904 by the American astronomer Charles Dillon Perrine (1867–1951). It is the largest member of the so-called Himalia prograde irregular group of Jovian satellites, the other members being Leda, Lysithea, Elara, and Dia.
