A spacecraft orbit that is above an altitude of approximately 32 180 km. This is called a ‘supersynchronous’ orbit, above the geosynchronous orbit and the medium Earth orbit. Such an orbit provides a large observing area, as well as long, uninterrupted viewing intervals. It is often highly inclined and highly elliptical to avoid the Earth's magnetosphere.
