A battle of the Wars of the Roses in which a Yorkist force led by John Neville, Earl of Montagu, captured Henry Beaufort, 3rd Duke of Somerset, three miles from the town of Hexham, in Northumberland. Somerset was beheaded on the field of battle and many of his followers were executed soon afterwards, while Neville was rewarded with the estates of the Percy family and the earldom of Northumberland.
