A stage in the European Early Jurassic (199.6–196.5 Ma ago, Int. Commission on Stratigraphy, 2004), preceded by the Rhaetian, followed by the Sinemurian, and roughly contemporaneous with the lower Aratauran (New Zealand). See also lias.
