An abbreviation of high efficiency particulate air filter, it is required to trap in excess of 99.97 per cent of particles with a diameter of 0.3 microns. HEPA filters are made from high-density mats of glass fibres and used in processes where very clean conditions are required such as the nuclear and pharmaceutical industries.
