  • A north‐westerly Roman road of Britain that ran from Dubris (Dover), via Londinium (London) and Verulamium (St Albans), to Deva (Chester). Much of it was built c.60–70ad for the advance north of the Fosse Way. Its name derives from the Anglo‐Saxon name for Verulamium (‘Waeclingacaester’).
