A land-dwelling crustacean (order Isopoda) that has a segmented body, 14 jointed limbs, and breathes through trachea on the edges of its hindlimbs (pleopods). Females store fertilized eggs in a ventral marsupium until they hatch into young resembling small adults. Woodlice dehydrate readily and occur in moist habitats and are largely nocturnal. They feed on dead plant matter. There are many species found worldwide.
